<$BlogRSDUrl$>

With the War on Terror and various other news issues taking up all of the limelight as of late, one of my old passions, UFO's Real and Imagined, has been at a low heartbeat. This blog is meant to be a small crash cart in an otherwise quiet area of investigation.

The UFO Flap of 1952

Whilst perusing the history of the UFO subject, a big fact jumped out at me: July 1952 holds the distinction of being the densest reporting period for UFO's in history. Typically, the month of July is also a peak month for a number of meteor showers, which certainly played into the '52 flap. But not to the levels then, nor since.

And the Follies Began....

On this date in 1947, it is generally assumed that the real informational denial of the existence of the Roswell disk, or of anything else interesting, began in earnest. As the popular view holds, the witnesses involved were intimidated and otherwise sworn to secrecy over the matter.

Sanitizing The Big Story - July 9th, 1947

General Ramey tries to pour some cold water on the Flying Disk Story:

Gen. Ramey Empties Roswell Saucer

Mac Brazel has a "change of heart" of sorts, as well:

Harassed Rancher Who Located 'Saucer' Sorry He Told About It

Of course, ol' Mac hung tough - He wouldn't quite deny everything:

"I am sure that what I found was not any weather observation balloon," he [Mac] said. "But if I find anything else besides a bomb they are going to have a hard time getting me to say anything about it."

The ball rolls on from this point, though it certainly hit a bump on the snooker table.

The Big Story - Roswell July 8, 1947

At 11:00am, Colonel Blanchard dictates a press release on the recovery of a flying disk to Press Information Officer (PIO) Walter Haut., who goes into town and delivers it to Frank Joyce at radio station KGFL.

The Roswell Record newspaper also ran the following story:

RAAF Captures Flying Saucer On Ranch in Roswell Region

The ball begins to roll.

A Most Interesting Independence Day

On July 4th, 1947, Mac Brazel discovered a large amount of lightweight, metallic debris (the crashed Roswell flying saucer) on a remote pasture of the Foster Ranch.

The Riddle

There is an actual meaning to the name of this blog. Can anyone tell me what it might be?

Roswell Rumbles

Today was the first indication that something was going on around Roswell, New Mexico.

Fifty-Eight years ago today, at around 9:50pm, Mr. & Mrs. Dan Wilmot report seeing an oval-shaped UFO from their house at South Penn, Roswell, moving NW, towards the crash site. Dan Wilmot estimates it as being at around 1500 feet and 15 to 20 feet in diameter.

All was quiet at this time, the world still moving along without this knowledge. As an idle musing, I wonder what would have been the fate of any coverup, had the Internet been in existence? Our planet was in an infant mode of telecommunications - the instant and endlessly duplicated flow of information that we now enjoy did not yet exist.
